Project and report for assessing urban design strategies in Silleda and A Bandeira from a gender perspective, including a methodological design for applying a gender approach to the planning of urbanized rural areas in Galicia, developed as a pilot project within the ESMAART research initiative at the University of A Coruña between March and July 2025. Combining technical analysis and participatory mechanisms, the project defined a methodology based on three pillars—a theoretical framework on gender and rural territories, a multi-level indicator structure, and an implementation system adapted to the Galician context—tested in the towns of Silleda and A Bandeira (Pontevedra). Organized around five key components—service provision, vitality, environmental quality, autonomy and safety, and social fabric—the indicators guided a feminist urban diagnosis aimed at improving comfort, accessibility, and equity in public space. The participatory process, supported by local institutions, fostered community engagement and revealed both challenges and opportunities for more inclusive planning. The resulting tool, a flexible and adaptable multi-criteria matrix, allows for the identification of territorial inequalities and prioritization of actions, promoting the design of fairer, more sustainable rural environments while encouraging energy efficiency, shared responsibility, and collective life as foundations for local energy communities and sustainable rural transitions.
