The project ‘Transoceanic Disclose: Weaving Architectural [Her]Stories’ aims to research, archive, and showcase the hidden histories of Indonesia’s early generation of female architects, particularly those who graduated from ITB (Indonesia’s first state-recognized architecture school) after the Indonesian National Revolution. The resulting traveling exhibition highlighted a first generation, who studied in the 1950s, featuring eight women, including Doddy Zartini Zahar, Kadarwati Sutomo, Roendarijah Soeparto, Siti Utamini, Susantiah M. Ardhi, Wahyuningsih Herbowo, Tuti Purwani Dipokusumo, and Budhy Tjahjati, and a second group, who studied in the 1960s, including Aristiana, Harastoeti Dibyo Harsono, Irmawati, and Sri Rahaju. The exhibition was held in three cities in autumn 2024—Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Jakarta—each accompanied by events to engage audiences further. By documenting the lives and contributions of these professionals, the project aims to inspire future generations of architects and urban planners, both in Indonesia and globally.
